The Monthly Makeup: April 2016
It is finally feeling like spring here in New York City and I am so excited for this April! First off, it's my birthday month, and secondly, my soon-to-be-married sister's bridal shower is in a couple weeks. With that in mind, I wanted to put together a monthly makeup look fit for spring and a bride. So this one's for you, Monica!
For my base, I skipped primer to keep everything dewy and glowy, and went right into a light layer of my Kiko Universal Fit Hydrating Foundation in 05 Light Beige. This foundation is a big favorite for me because it hydrates without feeling heavy on the skin, and it doesn't cling to any dry patches. Next, I concealed with Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Dark Circle Eraser in Light just under my eyes and around my nose. After blending that all out with a damp Beauty Blender, I very lightly contoured with my Kiko Rebel Romantics Perfecting Bronzer in 01 Light to Medium, added a little Benefit Dandelion for blush, and highlighted just above the cheek with my favorite Josie Maran Argan Enlightenment Illuminizing Veil. I wanted the pink eyes and lips to be the focal point, so I kept all of this complexion stuff pretty neutral to avoid a pink overload!
Onto eyes - I love eye primer. No, really. I even wear it on it's own without eyeshadow; it just smooths and evens everything out. Right now I'm loving Too Faced Shadow Insurance. For shadow I dusted off my sadly underused Maybelline Blushed Nudes palette, using shade 3 - a rose gold shimmer - for an allover color, shade 4 - a matte light mauve - in the crease, shade 6 - a deep mauve shimmer - on the outer V and under the lower lashline, and a tiny bit of shade 1 - a warm ivory shimmer - to highlight under the brow bone and in the inner corner of the eye. Man, it's times like these I wish my DSLR could take videos, but so it goes! Fair warning on the Maybelline palette - these shadows drop a lot of product below the eye, so I recommend either keeping a clean fan brush nearby to sweep it all away or making up your eyes before your complexion.
To keep the look soft, I lightly (and, let's be honest, without much precision) lined just the top lashline with my trusty Sephora Nano Eyeliner in 01 Midnight Black, and topped that off with a couple coats of Dior Diorshow Mascara in 090 Pro Black. If you'd like more definition, you could also go over your pencil liner with a liquid liner and flick it out into a mini cat eye - an easy extra step to transition the look into evening.
To finish it all off, I filled in my brows with my Kiko Eyebrow Marker in the shade 02, sealed that in with Maybelline's Brow Drama Sculpting Brow Mascara in Transparent, and swiped on a bit of the Beautycounter Lip Sheer in Petal. The final look was very soft, very pink, and fit for a spring bride.
I hope you like the finished look. Let me know what you think in the comments below!
