The Monthly Makeup: November 2016
Fall is my absolute favorite time of the year - the leaves, the crisp air, the cozy sweaters! - but November really holds a special place in my heart because it's the start of holiday season! With all of that in mind, I wanted to put together a monthly makeup look that married those gorgeous autumnal shades we all love so much with something a little more festive, and this is what I came up with - a shimmery bronze eye paired with a matte burgundy lip. It's the perfect look for an evening out, fancy enough for Thanksgiving, but still 100% wearable for daytime.
Start this look with your eyes. Early in the summer I picked up the Lorac Pro Palette 3 knowing it would become my go-to for fall; the color selection is stunning - very warm and bronze-y - with a range of matte and shimmer shades. Since this look is heavy on color, I kept it simple by using only three shades - Almond Pearl, Rose Bronze and Amethyst. With my Beautycounter All Over Eye Brush, I swept on Rose Bronze - a peachy bronze shimmer - starting at the inner corner of the eye and taking it 3/4 of the way across my lid. Next, I used a crease brush to take Amethyst - a plum shimmer - onto the outer corner, blending it into the crease and inwards on the lid to meet Rose Bronze. I then took the same shades under the eye, blending Rose Bronze on the lower lashline and deepening it with Amethyst on the outer half. For a subtle highlight, add Almond Pearl onto the inner corner of the eye and on the brow bone. When that's all done, make sure you blend everything really well using a clean Mac 217 Brush brush! Again, this look is all about the colors, so stick with brown tones for liner and mascara to keep it soft. I used Beautycounter's Color Outline Eye Pencil in Brown, which has a nice subtle shimmer, along the upper lashline and topped it off with L'Oréal Voluminous Mascara in Black Brown. If you want to make the look more festive, go back to your Lorac palette and press Medallion - a glittery gold shimmer - onto the center of the lid for a halo effect with a bit of sparkle, or, if you want more smoke, add Dark Mocha - a dark bronze shimmer - to the outer V of the eye and into the lashline. Finish off your brows with Glossier's Boy Brow (I use it in the shade Blonde) and your eyes are done!
Now for the easy part - complexion! With a damp Beautyblender, I applied a bit of the IT Cosmetics Your Skin But Better CC Cream focusing on the center of my face where I have the most redness, and then added in the Clé de Peau Beauté Concealer for some dark circle coverage under the eyes. Just be careful not to go over your eyeshadow! Next, I blended the Kevyn Aucoin Sculpting Powder under the cheekbones, into the hairline and under the jaw for a light contour. I am not a fan of heavy contouring, so I really love how subtle and blendable this powder is. I was excited to use my new NARS Blush in Seduction for cheeks, which is going to be perfect all through fall and winter. This cranberry shade looks intimidating in the pan, but when applied gives the same rosy flush you would naturally get on a crisp winter day. Plus, the neutral undertone makes it good for any skintone! To apply, I brushed it lightly onto the apples of my cheeks blending out and up. Finally, I finished everything off with what is hands down my favorite lip shade - NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Damned. This pencil could not be easier to apply and has extra Vitamin E in it, so you get matte lips minus the dryness. Just apply it all over the lips, clean up with edges with a little concealer and you are good to go!
So that's my November monthly makeup! You can find me in some variation of this just about everyday this month, and I think it's a color combination that flatters just about everyone. What's your go-to makeup look for the autumn season? Have you tried any of these products? I would love to hear from you in the comments below, and, as always, thank you for reading!
